Still, the Chargers sit at 5-3 and within a game of the division lead entering Week 10. It’s been hardly the season that the Chargers or the 49ers envisioned, but for different reasons....

The bodies of two fin whales surfaced after becoming dislodged from the hull of HMAS Sydney as it berthed alongside Naval Base San Diego on Saturday morning, NCA News Wire reported. The destroyer warship has been holding joint exercises with the U.S. Navy in the area since last month. The U.S. Navy, the Royal Australian Navy, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries and other bodies are working to review the incident, the Australian Department of Defence said in a statement sent to Newsweek....

Marine ecologist Matthew Savoca, from Stanford University, is the lead author of a study that looks at how much food these giant mammals actually consume. Previous estimates of their food intake was largely based on just a few measurements, so the team looked at data from 321 tagged whales sized between 30 and 100 feet that lived in the Atlantic, Pacific and Southern Oceans. The tags were able to track the whale movements, allowing them to pinpoint how often each animal was feeding....
