Dropping players onto a much smaller map, Call of Duty: Warzone’s Resurgence mode is perfect for players who don’t want to spend an entire game sneaking around a gigantic map and looting weapons only to be shot in the back out of nowhere. Resurgence was the perfect pairing for the original Warzone Battle Royale mode, and Call of Duty: Warzone 2 not having the mode was a real shame for many fans. But thankfully, in just a few weeks’ time, Infinity Ward is adding Resurgence to Call of Duty: Warzone 2.

What Call of Duty: Warzone 2’s Resurgence Map Should Take From Rebirth and Fortune’s Keep

Both of Call of Duty: Warzone’s Resurgence maps, Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep, have been heavily praised by fans for a number of reasons. The best aspect of both maps is that it offers a perfect middle ground between standard Call of Duty multiplayer, and Warzone’s larger-scale Battle Royale mode. Being much smaller than Verdansk, Caldera, and Al Mazrah, these maps feel much more fast-paced than Warzone’s main game mode, with players more likely to run into a team every few minutes. Whatever Warzone 2’s Resurgence map ends up looking like, it needs to follow this same general formula, giving fans a much smaller battlefield to play on, albeit still with plenty of interior structures and places for players to regroup and plan their next move.

It’s also imperative that Call of Duty: Warzone 2’s Resurgence mode keeps the same general gameplay formula and rules. One of the biggest highlights of the original Resurgence mode was its respawning system, where players would be able to drop back into the game just as long as they still had at least one teammate left on the field by the time the respawn timer reached zero. Right at the end of the game, respawns would be locked off, and players would be forced to play a little more carefully, adding a lot of tension to those last few minutes. Warzone 2 needs to keep this same structure for its own Resurgence mode, following the logic of “if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.”

How Warzone 2.0’s Resurgence Map Can Improve on Rebirth and Fortune’s Keep

One of the more controversial aspects of Warzone’s Fortune’s Keep map was that it felt a little too slow-paced. Many players attributed this slower-feeling gameplay to the map’s wealth of interior structures. While Rebirth Island had plenty of outside areas, ensuring that at least some players were always easy targets, Fortune’s Keep encouraged players to seek out shelter straight away and just hide in there until the end of the game, or they were forced to leave. Call of Duty: Warzone 2’s Resurgence map needs to strike a good balance between those two original maps, still offering plenty of cover for the endgame, but not encouraging players to just camp all game.

Another element that Call of Duty: Warzone 2’s Resurgence map could improve on is the general look of everything. While the original Warzone is still beloved by many, it’s generally believed that the visual design for both Verdansk and Caldera was a little dull, with the former appearing pretty gray, and the latter appearing too bright and yellow. These visual choices bled into Rebirth and Fortune’s Keep, and Warzone 2’s new Resurgence map should make sure that it offers players plenty of visual variety. Different types of architecture, different types of foliage, and plenty of water should set Warzone 2’s new map apart from its predecessors.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
